Dee Nolan will be doing Nolans Road extra virgin olive oil tastings in Sydney at the Thomas Dux Organic Food Fair at the Paddington and Lane Cove stores. She will be in Lane Cove 11am-2pm on Saturday March 14 and in Paddington 11am-2pm on Sunday March 15. Come and taste our award-winning Delicate oil which has recently been chosen by top Melbourne chef, Andrew McConnell for his highly-rated Melbourne restaurant, CUMULUS INC. Our Nolans Road Robust oil is a long-time favourite at Sydney restaurants SEAN’S PANAROMA and BISTRO MONCUR. Thomas Dux will be showcasing lots of wonderful organic products during the two day fair. to everyone who visited us at our stand at the Good Food Affare. There was gorgeous sunshine, gale force winds and pouring rain but the weather was the last thing on the minds of the thousands of food-lovers who flocked into the Castle Hill showground.
was the first person to appear at our Nolans Road stand on day one. Skye’s London restaurant, Skye Gyngell’s Café at Petersham Nurseries, was recreated as the stunning centrepiece of the event. Sydney-born Skye’s simple, flavoursome food showcases her passion for sustainably-grown produce and seasonal ingredients and she’s always a great inspiration to me. She first used our robust oil when she and Sean Moran of Sean’s Panaroma at Bondi Beach did a ”kitchen swap” last September and now she was taking our oil to use in her restaurant over the next three days of the Good Food Affare.
“PROBABLY THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENT I USE IN MY KITCHEN IS EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL,” Skye writes in her lovely new cookbook, My Favourite Ingredients (Published by Quadrille and now available in Australia)
demonstrations had standing room only too. Lyndey’s classes are always fun, always informative and she has a great gift for simplifying techniques and making you want to go straight home and start cooking. She shares Skye’s dedication to sourcing honest, good produce and especially olive oil, and told her audiences:
“Always buy the best olive oil you can afford. And make sure it’s extra virgin…” Find out where you can see Lyndey next on www.lyndeymilan.com
recently reported that tests commissioned by the Australian Olive Association showed that a number of imported oils, labelled as Extra Virgin, did not meet internationally recognised standards and are adulterated. A lot of people who visited the Nolans Road stand had watched the programme on the ABC in October and were much better informed as a result about what extra virgin olive oil is all about. It is good to see more and more olive oil lovers in Australia recognise that our home-grown oils are produced to the highest standards and that what we say on our labels is what’s in the bottle! Richard Gawel is one of our leading olive oil judges and experts and I recommend you read www.aromadictionary.com/oliveoilfaq.pdf as no-one explains with more clarity everything you need to know about extra virgin olive oil.
The Good Food Affare was a wonderful event and we were thrilled to be part of it. It was the first time it had been held, and here’s hoping the it will become an annual fixture.
PS Our very, very special thanks to Barb and Bridget for helping out on our stand for the weekend.
